# Introduction

## What is Mouth?

Mouth is a **PvP prediction market protocol** built on Base with native X (Twitter) integration.

Every day, people on X make bold predictions, challenge others, and debate outcomes — but there's no way to back those words with real stakes. Mouth changes that.

Mouth lets anyone create **PvP bets** directly from X or from the Mouth web app, deposit funds into a trustless escrow smart contract, and settle the outcome for real money.

The name comes from the expression **"Put your money where your mouth is"** — and that's exactly what the protocol enables.

## Core Concept

Mouth is NOT a traditional prediction market with order books or liquidity pools.

It's a **peer-to-peer, fixed-amount prediction escrow**:

* **Player A** makes a claim and puts money behind it
* **Player B** takes the other side for the same amount
* At expiration, the market is resolved and the winner takes the pot (minus a small protocol fee)

That's it. Simple, direct, PvP.

### PvP vs Open PvP Bets

Mouth supports two bet modes:

* **PvP bet** — 1v1 between two specific X accounts. Only the named opponent can accept.
* **Open PvP Bet** — Anyone can take the other side, even multiple opponents can each fill a portion of the total amount. For example, a \$1,000 Open PvP Bet could be filled by 2 people (\$400 + \$600).
